Magazine Adverts


The way Music videos or songs are known about are through a variety of different advertisement that you can find in a variety of different music magazines, Radio stations, TV Advertisement, Posters and Concerts. Not every artist or band can afford all of these but most of them stick to advertisement in a music magazine, but depending on how big the artist or band is depends on the type of magazine they are in and the size. for example you won’t have a band that no one’s heard about before in Q magazine, because it would hurt Q's reputation, and the fact that the band or artist couldn't afford it.  Typically in a music magazine they’ll sell advertisement for either a full A4 Page or half a page of A4. This is done so that when a reader of that magazine looks through it they see the advertisement of the band or artist, band  and artist make sure that there advertisement is in a magazine which is associated with the genre there music is in. I mainly see this when looking through Q and Kerrang magazines, usually they will sell full A4 spreads in there magazines.


The typical conventions within this page are:

  • Stand out font and colours that catch the reader’s attention 
  • Big writing and pictures so that the reader can't miss the advertisement
  • The Date of the album release so that the reader has a good idea of when to buy the album
  • The record label the artist or bands with 
  • the Name of the Band or artist 
  • the website of the Band or Artist 
  • Usually include some kind of logo or background picture.



This magazine advertisement is more a mixture between alternative rock and pop hence the mention in both Q and Mojo Magazine some of the biggest music magazine out there therefore raising the status of both the name of the artist and the new album. This picture is unique in itself because it’s made up of birds which isn’t the usual convention, the page also include both the artist name the albums name and the release date. At the bottom of the page you see both the website and the recording record, if the recording record is big and well known this will also bring in a variety of listeners however it’s not that key its mainly for advertisement of the brand.
