Treatmeant for 'Funeral' by Band Of Horses

What’s the song about? – The songs about death and changing the bad in someone, to make them a better person (Alternative Rock)
The Video Type – I have chosen to do a Narrative based video this means it will have a Storyline

Camerawork ideas –using a go pro I’ll have several point of view shots, this will be when the artist runs through a wooded path. The go pro will also be used in the car crash scene; it will be attached to the bonnet of the car as well as on the left hand side door so you really get a feeling for what’s happening in the scene. I will have several close ups on the artist face to see the pain and anguish in the artist eyes. I will have several static cameras for when the artist runs past them, as well as some over the shoulder shots. I plan on doing several shot-reverse-shots on the family in the video, so that you can connect with the situation and the scene, of the artist dead and his family finding out, I’m hoping that this gives the audience some kind of emotional connection.

Editing ideas – One idea that I’d like to use for editing would be using a lot of eye line matches throughout the video, so for example the performer to be looking at a peace of scenery. The camera would then go from a zoom on the performers face to the scenery and then back to his face. This will be done through a variety of different quick jump cuts to the scenery and to his face, by doing this you will see the emotion in the performers face and how that connects him to the song.

Another editing idea is using lots of jump cuts, in a sort of montage format where it shows the main character is walking threw a woods. This gives of the impression that the character is lost and can’t find its way back. I have chosen to do this to build a message between the lyrics of the song as well as the visual display the audience see, to create a meaningful and emotional response for the audience.

Mise En Scene ideas – the Lighting for my video will be quite dark and gloomy as I want to set it in the evening, I’ve done this because the song is quite dark and depressing which means less light will suit the video more. I will be filming my video at home, as well as a forest located half a mile away from my house which is a dense area. Here i will do most of the filming as it sets the scene and makes the connection between the genre and the type of song being performed.

Costume ideas for my video: I would like my main character to be wearing a Blue Suit Jacket, White shirt, Black Tie, Dark Blue Chino’s, Dark Blue and Grey shoes and a Dark Brown Belt. These items of clothing are both everyday stylings and cheap to afford, I bought them from the clothing brand called H & M. As you will see from this video, I would like to make the artist stand out and look different from other music videos which, is the type of thing you would expect from an Alternative Rock genre. At one point in the music video there will be a little girl who is depicted as the artist’s sister. She will be wearing her night clothes and the Artist hoodie.

Location ideas for my video: For my video I would use lots of different locations, most of the shots/clips will take place in a forest of some sorts. Another location will be in my house, another location will be a road outside my school these are important because it sets the story and also end it.

Sound ideas – the majority of the video will just be the song at full volume meaning you won’t be able to hear the background noise on the peace of footage I’ve filmed. However, I will use a variety of sound effects to help tell the story of what is happening on the screen. For example, I will be using a car crash sound effect to keep the audience engaged as well as mobile phone ringtone this will be done to add drama to the video and create an emotional link between the audience and the video.
